Steve Theis began his career in photography while still in high school working part-time for a local studio. He attended the Germain School of Photography and
graduated at the top of his class in 1972.
In 1973, Steve joined the Maryland Professional Photographers Association(MPPA) and attributes a great deal of his success to close friendships he has developed
within the group in the past 26 years. In 1983, Steve was instrumental in the formation of the Delaware Professional Photographers Association.
Steve began serving the public in 1974. His studio/home combination overlooks a beautiful pond in the town of Seaford, DE. He has a reputation for
sensitive and creative portraiture that depicts the mood and personality of his clients. Steve is not only well-known locally, but on a national level as well, receiving over 150 sate and national
awards.
As a member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), Steve is the first photographer in Delaware to receive the degree of “Master of Photography” and
“Photographic Craftsman”. In 1982, he earned the recognition of “Certified Professional Photographer” and has been successfully re-certified three times since. From 1981-1984, he served as
councilman for Delaware to the PPA. In 1983, he was chosen “Mr. Professional Photographer” while serving as membership chairman of the MPPA. In 1984, Steve earned his combined “Fellowship
Degree”, (MPPA). In 1988, the PPA “National Award” was presented to Steve for his service in the leadership of the MPPA for his six years as a board member, including serving as President in
1986.
As far as his photographic ability, Steve was named “Portrait Photographer of the Year” in 1984 by the MPPA and he has been named the “Candid Wedding Photographer of
the Year” four times. On the national level, Steve’s portraits have been displayed in the PPA, MPPA, and DPPA’s Traveling Loan Collections. In 1993, one of Steve’s portraits won second place
in a national competition held by Kodak.
Chris Theis, although relatively new to Photography as a Profession, has been influenced by his fathers studio for all of his 31 years. Chris graduated from
Messiah College in 1992 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing. He spent the next several years working in Corporate Sales for the Poultry industry.
In 1997, Chris found a renewed interest in his father’s Profession and began assisting at weddings on the weekends and has now been a full-time photographer with the
studio since September of 1998. His work has recently been awarded by the Delaware and Southeastern Professional Photographers Associations. One of his prints was also awarded the “Kodak
Gallery Award” for excellence in portrait photography. This print along with another have been published in the 2000 edition of the Professional Photographers of America’s Showcase book.
